Improved communications technology is critical for future ocean observation systems. Researchers in this project are developing a simulation and rapid prototyping environment called the reconfigurable modem (rModem) to allow acoustic communication between distributed autonomous underwater platforms and robots. Applications for this will include environmental monitoring, collection of scientific data, and efficient search and survey.
