The objective of this work is to develop a computable general equilibrium (CGE) model to provide fisheries managers with a new tool for policy analysis. Researchers will model interactions between the coastal economy and the marine ecosystem of New England in order to assess the socioeconomic impacts of conservation and management measures on fishing communities, and to evaluate alternative management options. Ecosystem-based management seeks to prevent over-exploitation of important fish stocks; this sophisticated CGE model will balance protection of stock and habitats with the economic well-being of commercial fishermen and associated marine industries.
