Sponsored by MIT Sea Grant, Cape Cod native will spend a year in D.C. as a John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellow

Cape Cod native Brianna Shaughnessy (UMass Boston) is among the 69 finalists in the 2020 class of the John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship Program. Sponsored by MIT Sea Grant, the PhD candidate in Environmental Biology stood out as a strong applicant exploring interactions between human systems and coastal environments through the IGERT (Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeship) Coasts and Communities program. The one-year Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and national policy in the legislative or executive branch of government in Washington, D.C. Two additional Massachusetts-based finalists were selected: Amanda Dwyer (Northeastern University) and Sean McNally (UMass Boston), sponsored by Woods Hole Sea Grant. The three PhD candidates will bring the total number of Knauss Fellows from the Commonwealth to over 50.
