MIT Sea Grant administers and promotes a number of programs, fellowships, internships, and awards that directly support those pursuing studies in marine research. We work with high school students, undergraduates and graduate students from MIT, Massachusetts schools, and US universities, as well as international visiting scholars.

The NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship provides on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management and policy for postgraduate students who support state coastal zone management programs through project assistance.
The two-year paid fellowships start in August with coastal programs in Connecticut, Maine, U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, and with the Coastal States Organization. | The application period is now closed. Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) is a Department of Defense (DoD) Scholarship Program for STEM students. The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students pursuing a STEM degree. The Woods Hole Partnership Education Program (PEP) is a multi-institutional program between the 6 Woods Hole scientific institutions and the academic partner, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. PEP is a 10-week program designed primarily for college juniors and seniors from underrepresented groups in marine and ocean sciences who want to spend a summer gaining practical experience in marine and environmental science. NOAA’s National Coral Reef Management Fellowship program creates seven two-year positions at institutions in coral reef states and territories.
