We work with high school students, undergraduates and graduate students from MIT, Massachusetts schools, and US universities, as well as international visiting scholars.

The John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship provides a unique educational and professional experience to graduate students who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources. Woods Hole Sea Grant and MIT Sea Grant are pleased to announce the new two-year Massachusetts Sea Grant Graduate Research Fellowship, which anticipates supporting two students applying to MA programs and engaging in coastal/marine research. MIT Sea Grant College Program receives nominations during the academic year for the Dean A. Horn Award for Undergraduate Study in Marine Research. All MIT undergraduates from any Department are eligible.	Applications open each year in early spring.
The NMFS-Sea Grant Joint Fellowship Program in Population and Ecosystem Dynamics and Marine Resource Economics is designed to help Sea Grant fulfill its broad educational responsibilities and to strengthen the collaboration between Sea Grant and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). The NOAA Coastal Management Fellowship provides on-the-job education and training opportunities in coastal resource management and policy for postgraduate students who support state coastal zone management programs through project assistance. The two-year paid fellowships start in August with coastal programs in Connecticut, Maine, U.S. Virgin Islands, Washington, and with the Coastal States Organization. The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program (NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries) provides support for master’s and doctoral degrees in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology, including ocean and coastal engineering, social science, marine education, cultural anthropology, and resource management disciplines, and particularly encourages women and members of minority groups to apply. The Naval Research Enterprise Internship Program (NREIP) places college students, graduating seniors, and graduate students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for 10 weeks during the summer.	Applications open August 1, 2024 – November 1, 2024
Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) is a Department of Defense (DoD) Scholarship Program for STEM students. The SMART Scholarship-for-Service Program is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students pursuing a STEM degree. Scholarship recipients receive full tuition, annual stipends, internships, and guaranteed employment with the DoD after graduation.	Applications open annually from August 1 – December 1.
The US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) is hiring soon-to-be and recent graduates in the Science and Engineering fields! Now filling positions to build a team of highly motivated, collaborative individuals to reduce greenhouse gases and improve air quality. Positions available involve primarily implementing Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) programs, which tackle the climate crisis, reduce air pollution, and advance environmental justice. William M. Lapenta NOAA Student Internship: Paid summer internships for 2nd and 3rd-year undergraduate and enrolled graduate students to work in areas that will provide robust research and/or operational experience that will prepare the student for further study in NOAA fields, for application to fellowships, or for the NOAA-mission workforce.	Application period: October 1, 2022 – January 5, 2023 Internship period: June 5, 2023 – August 11, 2023
NOAA Office for Coastal Management’s Margaret A. Davidson Graduate Fellowship is a two-year program that places one graduate student at each of the 29 national estuarine research reserves. Fellows address key reserve management needs to help scientists and communities understand coastal challenges that may influence future policy and management strategies.	The next call for applications will open Summer 2023. Next application deadline will be December 2023 for fellowships beginning August 1, 2024.
IN FISH (Inclusive NOAA Fisheries InternSHip) is a partnership program between NOAA and research partners in academia and non-governmental research institutions. It is a 10-week paid undergraduate internship for U.S. citizens in a NOAA or partner institution marine research lab or marine resources program office.	February 10, 2023
The National Water Center Innovators Program and Summer Institute is a seven-week experiential learning program that brings graduate students together with academic researchers, other professionals, and National Water Center staff.	January 6, 2023 by 11:59 pm ET
The Woods Hole Partnership Education Program (PEP) is a multi-institutional program between the 6 Woods Hole scientific institutions and the academic partner, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. PEP is a 10-week program designed primarily for college juniors and seniors from underrepresented groups in marine and ocean sciences who want to spend a summer gaining practical experience in marine and environmental science. The program consists of a four-week course in global climate change and a ten-week research project in Woods Hole. The Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) is a nine-month remote internship for U.S. citizen students, college-level and above, who would like to make a real difference in the work of the U.S. government.	Ongoing
NOAA Climate & Global Change Postdoctoral Program Fellows will work alongside scientists at major U.S. universities and organizations. Climate and Global Change fellows are hosted by mentoring scientists at U.S. universities and research institutions to work on questions of mutual interest. NOAA’s Educational Partnership Program with Minority Serving Institutions Cooperative Science Centers support the education, training and graduation of undergraduate and graduate students attending academic institutions supported by 5-year competitive awards. Students pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees in disciplines aligned with NOAA’s mission and participate in professional development and internship opportunities at NOAA facilities.	Ongoing
NOAA Sea Grant’s Community Engaged Internship Program is designed to broaden participation in marine and coastal professions by providing training and mentorship to the next generation of scientists, decision makers and citizens, working with undergraduate students from underrepresented and indigenous communities. NOAA’s Explorer-in-Training Program provides interdisciplinary opportunities that enable the next generation of ocean explorers to increase their competitiveness in ocean-related fields. Shorebased or at-sea internships can include collaboration on ongoing projects or supporting expeditions and are available to undergraduate students, graduate students and recent graduates.	Ongoing
NOAA and National Research Council Post Doc A variety of postdoctoral research opportunities are available at NOAA through the Research Associateship Program and the National Research Council (NRC).	Ongoing
NOAA’s National Coral Reef Management Fellowship program creates seven two-year positions at institutions in coral reef states and territories. Fellows will work on issues affecting U.S. coral reef ecosystems including climate change, land-based sources of pollution and fishing.	Applications for the 2024-26 fellowship will open in early summer 2023.
Our Future Is Science (OFIS) by the Aspen Institute Science & Society Program and Coda Societies. OFIS features an extracurricular mentorship forum in which high school students and STEM graduate students explore together the links between science and social justice.	October 28, 2021
MIT Sea Grant sponsors the Blue Lobster Bowl, a fast-paced ocean science quiz bowl, the regional competition of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) for MA high school teams. Participants are eligible to apply for a Coastal and Ocean Science Training (COAST) internship through NOSB.	The Blue Lobster Bowl will not take place this year.
The Rethink Outside Fellowship is a 6-month fellowship designed to support, connect, and elevate an intergenerational group of leaders and storytellers connecting people with nature. It is an invitation for Black, Indigenous, and people of color to draw on their own experiences and enhance their communications and leadership skills.	August 22, 2021
